Life With A 3 Year Old

I've been enjoying having my nephew here, but at times I wonder my gosh how did I get anything done when mine were that little. It's Aunt Nikki can you play with me? Aunt Nikki can you help me? Aunt Nikki I want....; Aunt Nikki....

Actually it hasn't been all that bad, but it just made me realized how independent my own children have become over the years. Gone are the days of sitting in the bathroom with them while they take a bath, and gone are the days of.... It doesn't really matter if I list them all or not the point is own children are very independent now and having my nephew here has made me realize that.

School work over all is going okay. It's a bit of struggle to figure out the new routine of things with my nephew here but we are doing it. Some things I'm waiting for during nap time to do so that makes my kids a little on edge because they are so use to having most things done before lunch.  It's not bad, but it is an adjustment.

What's has been happening with you?

We're Open Again!

Dear Readers,

You may have (or may not) have noticed that for a short time today Catholic Christian Homeschooling was closed! I for short time had to make the blog private while I worked on the new template (layout) for Catholic Christian Homeschooling.

I still have some editing to to do to the template, but the major stuff is done! I just needed to close it down because I needed to do some editing, mainly to the buttons at the top along with the RSS feed direction etc...

So I didn't want anybody visiting and getting confused!

Sincerely,
Nikki (aka SAHMinIL)

EDIT ADD: If you have already voted in the current poll about the radio show, please RE-VOTE!! I had lost the original poll when editing the site!!

For my Catholic Readers:

USCCB - Roman Missal | Examples

Have you seen the NEW wording for the NEW missal? I just wanted to post this as an FYI for my Catholic Readers. Now that I have shared this we will go back to our normal topic.

PS: I've turned off comments for this post, because I really just wanted to use this as an FYI for my Catholic Readers.

I under normal circumstance would direct you to my website and say let's use the forum section to have a discussion about the new missal, but I'm having issues with my website's format right now and the forum section is not readable. Webs.com hosts my website and I have contacted them to let them know I'm having issues. I' m just waiting for them to get back to me. Hopefully I will have that fix soon!

retreats, breaks, finding myself

This Lenten Journey hasn't gone exactly as I have planned, but sometimes the unplanned can be a good thing. I have over all have reduce the total amount of time that I spend on the internet, but I have introduced more things! Weird I know, but that's how it has worked out.

Thanks to Judy @ benmakesten and her website Daily Blessings I've started my own website. (A link to my website and be found in the side bar) The website host my lesson plans, list of my favorite sites, my favorite music, among other things. It's nothing fancy.

The other thing I've done is I've joined twitter. Through twitter I've been able to follow Greg Willits, he's the producer of that Catholic Show. I've posted some of those videos here previously. I also have been able to follow Patrick Madrid and his blog. I also have found Fr. Bartenuk and his blog. They along with other sites have been a great help to me this Lenten season.

I've also have started to read the writings of St. John of the Cross, especially The Dark Night of the Soul. A dear friend of mine has sent me a personal email recently. Her email has really helped me. When I was browsing my local public library's e-book list I came across The Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross. The title of St. John's writing reminded me of my friend's recent email. So I've decided to read it. I'm glad that I am and I'm thankful to have a friend that cares enough to email me.

So where does this leave me with homeschooling, blogging, and all the rest? Well I have figured out how to delay postings. So I can write things at night and have it post new in the morning. This will help me, because I don't want to be on the PC during the daytime, but at the same time I want new content on my blogs in the mornings for my readers!! So figuring out how to delay the posting is going to be a great help!

I'm in the middle of trying to change my "habits"; that is harder to do then said, but I finally feel that I'm on the right track. I still have a long way to go, but little steps at a time.

Oh and homeschooling is doing well! We have about 5 more weeks to do before we are officially done for THIS school year!!! Yay, we can't wait!!! I've also decided that we will homeschool all year, so July will be the start of our NEW school year!!

Old Fashion Phones

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I think this will sum up what this post is about. That is my cell phone next to the battery pack for the video camera (camcorder) that we just got this week for the kids. Why is it next to the phone you wonder? Well the words on the battery pack should be helpful. Under the words battery pack it states "for camcorders AND cellular telephones."

LOL!!! I don't know of any cell phone today that uses a battery that is so HUGE!!! Clearly the video camera that we got for the kids this last week is an older VHS camcorder. The kids have expressed interest in making films. So I put a request out there on freecycle to see if anyone had a working camera they were willing to part with, even if it was VHS. My amateur film makers don't care they just want to be able to make films. Thankfully we did get someone willing to fulfill our request. The kids have been having fun making films.

We had huge laugh when we realized what the battery for the video camera stated on it. After all that battery is heavy!!! I think that this battery is at least 4 times the weight of the phone next to it. We made jokes of people falling over while using the cell phone. LOL

All of this prompted more interest from the kids. They now want to learn about phones and seeing real examples of what my DD called "Old Fashion Phones" like the "giant cell phone". DH and I just looked at each other with puzzlement and wonder when did we become old fashion....LOL

I do remember reading an article in my utility company's magazine/newsletter thing about a telephone museum of sorts near by (or at least I think it is). I don't remember now, nor do I remember the name. I guess I'll have to by pass the bear hunt and go on a museum hunt instead.

I'm going on a (telephone) museum hunt, can't go over it, can't go under it.....LOL

Sleepless

Sleepless nights! Why?? I know that I need to rest so I can be the best I can be for the kids tomorrow....what good is the "teacher" when she's sleepy and worn out!!

Sometimes I'm just restless and I can't sleep: I don't understand why?? Perhaps I'm nervous about this week, about tomorrow (although tomorrow will be here in less then 20 minutes).

I've decided to take a little bit different approach with the schooling, so I'm sure that is playing on me. I'm worried about the kids acceptance. I'm also worried about them "listening". We are going to be doing more Mommy reads and you listen.

I've tired doing some of that before, but it was faced with statements like "boring". I should point out as soon as I mention I was going to grab a book I got the response "boring"; the kids just didn't want to do it, so before we could even start they would start saying how boring it was. I, of course, being the "newbie" would just roll with that and do something else, but after months of doing that I want change.

I want the kids to do somethings that I want them to do, even if they think it's "boring". There are things that I've been wanting to read to them or have them listen too; so I'm taking this on and we are going to be doing something that the kids may think are boring, but I think it will do them good and me good.

Of course I don't want this to become a fight, but I think it's time we do things a little different. I know my own fears about how the kids will react is what is keeping me up. So I pray that it goes well!! A post later tomorrow (yep I check the clock it's still Sunday) will let you know how it went.
