As I mention before we were going to plant a sock. We have planted them and this post is about sharing what we found and how it went!
The first thing we did was went down to our local forest preserve on April 25th. There we put on a sock over our shoes: After our socks were on we went walking around:During the walk we found some animal prints in the mud:The mud was so thick and sticky that I almost lost my shoe: After our walk we examined our socks! They were muddy and had some things stuck to them. Seeds we hope! We placed them in plastic baggies in hopes to help keep the seeds attached. As soon as we got home we planted them!Since that day we have been watering the socks as needed. Waiting for something, anything, to come up. Our wait has finally ended! This past Monday (May 11th) I was able to take a snap shot of each container. Both containers have 1 little bud. I don't know what kind of plant, but it's green! LOL
This one is DS container. You can see the little-tiny plant in the middle. Just some green poking throughThis is DD container her little plant poked through a few days before DS (that's why it's taller). It's along the edge. Now some people may prefer to wash their dirty muddy clothing. However, I prefer to bury them and watch something grow! LOL Let's just say that I was thankful that I didn't have to make those sock come out white again in the wash.
I'm a little disappointed that we got only one plant each, but they did say the best time was fall. So I think we will do this again in the fall and compare the results we get then to the ones we got this time.
So yes it's true you can bury a sock and get something to grow. The question is will these little plants grow and produce more socks. LOL Do you have a forest near you? Do you have some old container? Dirt? Old socks? If so go hiking and when you are done plant a sock!!

UPDATE: To Nest Or Not To Nest!
Posted by
Nichole "Nikki" Warren
When I made the post here I was certain that I was on the loosing side of my battle with these determine parents. They tried all day Thursday and were at it again on Friday Morning when I took the pictures.
However after the pictures I let it go: mainly because I was certain that I was on the loosing end and after a while I started to think what harm could come of it? Other then my fears of being attacked. After I took the pictures, on Friday, they hung out in the tree in the front yard. When we got up Saturday the birds were gone and there was no new signs of them trying to build the nest in the light fixture.
So I'm not sure what happened. They were determined on Thursday no matter what I did. They were here Friday Morning and determined until I stopped to take pictures of them in the tree, the light fixture, and the doorway. After the pictures, on Friday, they they stopped what they were doing and hung out in the tree in the front yard for the rest of the day. Then by Saturday they were gone.
Believe it or not, despite how I was feeling on Thursday and Friday Morning, I'm sad that they disappeared. I wonder other then be a little annoyed with me what made them disappear? Perhaps they didn't like the paparazzi (me taking pictures)? They were completely determined and still at it until I took pictures.

Birds: To Nest Or Not To Nest!
Posted by
Nichole "Nikki" Warren
That is the question of the day! We got a pair of sparrows (not sure what kind of sparrows)
that have decided to try to nest in our light fixture.
I'm not sure if I should let them nest there or not. I asked the ladies at THL what they thought. Many of them said I should let them be! That I should raise the white flag and let them nest there. However, how do I let them just do that? Can you see how close that light fixture is to my front door?
Not only is it close to my front door, but as you can see from the picture below I don't have front porch. I just have a stoop (step):
My biggest issue with is location that they have picked is how close it is to the front door! What if Mama decided to attack (once there are babies/eggs)? Seriously I don't want to be barred from using my own front door!
If this was your house would you let them stay? Would you raise the white flag and let it be? Would you use this as a teaching lesson? How would you make this "work"?

First Communion
Posted by
Nichole "Nikki" Warren
Those of you that have been following my blog for a while know that my DS has been preparing to receive First Communion. Today and yesterday we have been doing those final preps that needs to be done, buying outfits, clothing, shoes, stockings, etc. We also made it a point today to stop in at church to receive reconciliation. So we've been busy the last few days.
My DS picked out his own clothing and I must say I'm happy with his choices! DD even got a new dress for the occasion. I'm going to be wearing some slacks that I already had, but I went and bought myself some new shoes and shirt to wear with my slacks. Luckily for us, DH wears "dress" clothing for work, so he didn't need anything NEW. LOL
I have added a picture of the children's outfits for the day. I got DS outfit a 4 piece shirt, pants, vest and tie at JcPenny's for $20. I got DD dress at TJmax for $10 and my new shirt/blouse at walmart for $15. It really sucks when the shoes cost MORE then the clothing! Shoes today (3 pairs) cost $55 at playless. However we are all ready now, especially seeing we also went to confession today!! DS, even decided it was best to receive reconciliation today as well!!! (He had received his first reconciliation in January)
So we are now officially counting down the days to DS's first communion. The first communion Mass is going to be Saturday April 4th @ 2:00 pm @ our church!!! Congrats to my DS!!!

The one thing you may have noticed about the outfits is that DS's shirt is NOT white. It's blue with a white collar and white cuffs. To be honest, I'm okay with that. It looked really nice on him and he's going to look just fine when receiving communion.
DD dress looks more yellow in the picture then it really is. Her dress is actually a green. It also has flowers (white) and darker greens along the bottom and flowers around the waist. For whatever reason no matter how I took the picture the dress came out yellow. Oh well.
My blouse that I'm wearing is going to be blue, DH has decided that he's going to wear his green shirt. So we are going to be very "spring-ish" next weekend! :)
