Camping, Boys, Race Cars

What a weekend! I spent it sleeping on the ground, in a tent. I did have my body pillow and that did help some along with the air pad. However, I really do need to get a cot.

Over all it was a good weekend. SS planned the weekend's activities and I think he did a very good job. The boys in his troop all seems to have a good time over all, despite the fact that breakfast Saturday Morning was a bit of a disaster.

Pancakes and sausages was the game plan for Saturday morning. The stove did not work. The regulator was broken. One of the adults ran to go get a new regulator while the boys gathered sticks to start a fire to cook breakfast. They were able to get 12 pancakes cooked before the other adult came back with the replacement part.   It ended up putting us 30 minutes behind schedule, but the boys made up for it.

I didn't realized how much walking I did over the weekend until after I got home. I was wearing my iFit Act Activity Tracker.  I didn't think I did that much seeing I spent, I thought, the majority of the day in my chair, but I did have to walk to the port-a-pot a few times and I helped the boys and walked some with one of the other parents.  Seeing my walking count made me want to share it with others. I have decided to share my tracker information more regularly on my facebook page: Catholic Christian Homeschooling.

The image below is from Saturday. Plus I did over 7,000 on Friday and over 5,000 on Sunday. Today I didn't fair as well, but that's okay. Tomorrow is a new day! You are welcomed to like my facebook page and check out my steps...... Keep on walking!

So camping was good. I'm tired and my legs feel like jelly.  I think this is why.....

So what does this post have to do with race cars you are wondering? Well the camping trip was at a local race track. So we spend the day watching (and hearing) the race cars. Actually, it just became back ground noise to me and I really didn't watch the cars.  Our camp site was in the middle of the track so we really didn't have go anywhere to watch the cars go around and around and around.

We are walking now!

"This must be like life was like for Laurawhen she walked 3 miles for school". That is what my daughter told me earlier this week when we had no choice, but to walk home from the store because our one and only running vehicle broke down.

What a week it has been. Need to go to the store: walk. Need to go to the library so my son can do his volunteer hours: walk. Need.... well be prepared to walk!

Thankfully, my kids even though we had to cancel chorus, cancel meeting ups with homeschool friends, cancel seeing A Midsummer Night's Dream, have been very helpful and understanding. They even willing and cheerfully walked to the store with me so we could carry more groceries home then I would have if I went alone.

My daughter, who is nearly 13 now, warmed my heart and helped me stay positive this whole week. She told me "We are lucky God blessed us with a good weather day for walking".   Yes, my dear, we were. We have been blessed that this whole week has been nice. Today, I was out and and about in just a heavy sweater.  Being in Northern Illinois the weather can be a hit or a miss.  The other plus I guess to the all the walking is I actually hit 10,000 steps per day! I have been using an iFitto track my walking, eating, etc.  So it was nice to see me actually hit that mark. Most days I get around 3,000 steps in and there have been some days where is a shameful 500!

Besides walking everywhere this week, often for at least 2 miles one way, we celebrated one of our puppy's first birthday.  Puggy, our fawn color puggle, turned 1 on Wednesday.  It won't be long until our black puggle, Onyx, will be one too.  Puggy and Onyx like to share there day to day activities on their facebook page: Unofficial Puggy.  --- the page was started when we only have Puggy.  Maybe we should change the name? Maybe not! Anyway you can check out their page.

We've gone mobile and other news.

I have updated Catholic Christian Homeschooling so that when you visit this blog from a mobile device you will see a mobile version of the blog! I hope that you will enjoy and be sure to give me your feedback on it!!

In other news: We are STILL plugging away with our studies. We have math and spelling work to finish up and if everything goes well we should be done with those subject by the end of the month.

This weekend we are participating in a charity walk: "Rock the Curve Walk" for Scoliosis.  The little girl that founded the Northern Illinois Curvy Girl Group is a dear friend of my children. Her family is a member of our church and she and Superstar were in the same 1st grade class when Superstar attended public school.  We are very happy to be supporting Julia and all the curvy girls this Sunday via the walk. We raised over $100 in sponsorship for the walk. My family and friends are just awesome! Now we just have to hope for beautiful weather.

Speaking of weather what is it like in your neck of the woods? At the beginning of the week we had temps approaching 100. However we had a huge storm front that came through here Wednesday night dropping the temps down into the 50s! It's been so cold here yesterday and today that I'm actually wearing sweat and a sweater! I'm really not complaining because we do NOT have A/C so I'm truly thankful for the cooler temps! It's wonderful really!!!

Happy Summer!

Planting Socks: The Results

As I mention before we were going to plant a sock. We have planted them and this post is about sharing what we found and how it went!

The first thing we did was went down to our local forest preserve on April 25th. There we put on a sock over our shoes:

After our socks were on we went walking around:

During the walk we found some animal prints in the mud:

The mud was so thick and sticky that I almost lost my shoe:

After our walk we examined our socks! They were muddy and had some things stuck to them. Seeds we hope! We placed them in plastic baggies in hopes to help keep the seeds attached.

As soon as we got home we planted them!

Since that day we have been watering the socks as needed. Waiting for something, anything, to come up. Our wait has finally ended! This past Monday (May 11th) I was able to take a snap shot of each container. Both containers have 1 little bud. I don't know what kind of plant, but it's green! LOL

This one is DS container. You can see the little-tiny plant in the middle. Just some green poking through

This is DD container her little plant poked through a few days before DS (that's why it's taller). It's along the edge.

Now some people may prefer to wash their dirty muddy clothing. However, I prefer to bury them and watch something grow! LOL Let's just say that I was thankful that I didn't have to make those sock come out white again in the wash.

I'm a little disappointed that we got only one plant each, but they did say the best time was fall. So I think we will do this again in the fall and compare the results we get then to the ones we got this time.

So yes it's true you can bury a sock and get something to grow. The question is will these little plants grow and produce more socks. LOL Do you have a forest near you? Do you have some old container? Dirt? Old socks? If so go hiking and when you are done plant a sock!!
